I picked up this 1962 Topps Ken Hubbs rookie card on eBay recently. This fits my vinatage collection and is also a rookie card of a player that won the Rookie of the Year Award, which is a project I started back in 2010. The card is in great condition considering that it's 50 ears old. Hubbs isn't a household name, but he actually won the 1962 N.L. Rookie of the Year Award while playing second base for the Chicago Cubs. He became the first rookie to win a Gold Glove. He struggled at the plate but was known as one of the best defensive second baseman in all of baseball. He had a fear of flying and decided to confront it head on by getting his pilots licence. On February 13, 1964 he got caught in a storm and the plane he was flying crashed and he was killed.
That's one of the saddest card stories I've ever heard - great history and thanks for sharing your great card!
