1986 Topps

I got an email back in April from a reader of my blog Nick offering me some help with my goal of collecting every Topps set from 1981 (my birth year) on.

Nick generously offered me a 1986 Topps set. It arrived several weeks ago, but I've been swamped with Little League baseball over the past couple of months and haven't had time to properly look through the set and do a proper post to thank Nick.

I started collecting baseball cards in 1988. I've got a plethora of cards from every year since. Prior to that though, I have very few cards, so to get a 1986 Topps set out of the blue like this is awesome.

Nick's 1986 Topps set is my 12th Topps set. Thank you Nick! Good luck with ttms! I'll be on the look out for some Griffey and Ichiro cards for you.

Here's a quick look at the 1986 Topps set.

Pete Rose was card #1. I like the simplistic design with all the needed components (team name, player name, and position) plus plenty of room for a nice photo.

Rose also occupied cards #2 - #7. This may be the closest I ever get to owning a Pete Rose RC.

Rose would add a few more Topps cards (87, 88, and 89) to his resume after the 1986 tribute.

  1. For over two decades, I really didn't like the 86T design. But it has really grown on me the last few years. I love, love, love seeing autographed versions of these cards. These cards were made to be signed in black Sharpie. Best of luck on your Topps set project. I'm doing something similar... but I was born about a decade before you.
