Mickey Mantle Autograph - Real or Fake?

Take a look at the card above and give me your honest opinion of whether or not you think the autograph is real or fake. The card itself was produced by Upper Deck in 1994 and measures 3.5" x 5".

I've had this card for over 10 years and have always wondered whether or not it's legit. Not because I don't trust where I got it from, but because of the huge number of Mantle forgeries out there. I'd like to get everyone's opinion and then I'll provide a little more information about where I got it from. Thanks!

  1. Why don't you just get it authenticated? For the Mick, the price is probably worth it.

  2. I'd say it's real. The same one is on EBay right now, although it doesn't have "No. 7" on it. I wonder why?

  3. This is a really awesome card.

sorry that I'm asking this here, but you came in 3rd in my contest! Which means you get a prize! and I do not have any other way of contacting you so I was just wondering if you could send your address to my email so I can send you your winnings! (schuyler@merrittbooks.com)

  4. I have the same signed card. I received it at a Mickey Mantle signing that was at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas back in 1993-1995. I would have to pull it out to find the exact date. I don't believe mine has the number 7 signed on it. I forgot what happen but I believe Mickey didn't show at the last second and the crowd became a little hostile. They handed these out to settle the small crowd down that waited for hours.

  5. I also have the same card. I was given it by Mickey when I sat in front of him on a Delta flight from John Wayne Airport in Orange Cty CA to Dallas in 1994. There were only a few of us in the first class cabin and I almost fell over when I got on the plane and saw him there. I didn't want to bother him during the flight so I figured I would ask him to sign an autograph for my newly born daughter before we landed in Dallas. Instead he gave me one of these cards for my daughter and told me that she'd like it better. I researched the cards and found out that Upper Deck had them made for him to hand out to kids. He had not always been gracious when approached by kids earlier in his career and since he was under contract to Upper Deck, they wanted him to be ready for kids asking. It's real.
