Card Shop Pick-Ups

I picked up a couple of cards about a week ago at one of my LCS. I think they were 2 for $1, or 3 for $1...I can't remember. I picked up the Stephen Drew card below and 5 of the Paul Goldschmidt rookie cards. I sent one of the Goldschmidt cards as a ttm, so hopefully I'll get that back soon. The otehr 4 are one each for myself and my three boys.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Vintage Rookie Card

I went to the card shop about a week ago to pick up some card for Play at the Plate (I'll get your package out to you soon) and I came accross this beat up 1970 Topps Rookie Card of Thurman Munson. It's got rough corners, isn't centered top to bottom, and has a crease accross the bottom portion of Munson's picture (you can see it on the scan, but it's hard to see in person), but I love it and for under $10 I had to add it to my collection.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Ricky Romero Chrome Refractor RC Auto

I needed one more card to round out my 3/$10 purchase at the card shop a couple of weeks back, so I picked up this 2009 Topps Chrome Refractor Rookie Auto of Blue Jays pitcher Ricky Romero. It is an on card auto (lookes like a sticker auto, but it's not) and is serial numbered on the back 232/499. This will probably be for trade.

Card Shop Pick-Up: 3000 Hit Club Bat Card

This next card is part of my recent 3/$10 card shop purchase. I was able to get this 2007 UD Sweet Spot Classic Tony Gwynn Bat Card for my 3000 Hit Club Collection, which is coming along nicely and can be seen here.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Brandon Webb Auto

I picked up 3 cards a week or so ago at my LCS. The cards were in a case that all cards were 3/$10 so I got each for roughly $3.33. First up is a 2010 Upper Deck Signature Sensations Brandon Webb Autograph. I was excited to add another Webb auto to my collection and for the price I couldn't pass it up.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Erubial Durazo Bat and Jersey Cards

A few weeks back I posted about several $2 memorabilia cards that I picked up from a local card shop. Well, I went back to the Batter's Box last Saturday for an auction and to pick up some supplies. I noticed that the seller had lowered the price of all his memorabilia cards. Instead of $2 each, now they were just $1 each. I used my lunch break on Monday to go back and pick up a few cards, 7 cards to be exact. Here are three of the seven.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Football Relic

Here is the last card that I picked up a couple weekends ago at a card shop. The cards were $3 each or 5 for $10, so this was my fifth card. I don't usually pick up football cards, but there are a couple reasons why I made an exception here. So here they are:

1) It's a triple relic card for $2 bucks.
2) I love the fact that the piece of football has writing on it.
3) John Beck is a local guy (attended high school in Mesa, AZ).
4) It's numbered on the back 19/50.
5) I could always put it on eBay and probably get my $2 back if I wanted to.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Dave Winfield RC

I picked up this 1974 Topps Dave Winfield Rookie Card this past Friday at my local card shop. I've wanted this card for a while. My brother-in-law had this card from when he was a kid and I've always liked it. Now I have one of my own. The condition is not perfect (I didn't crop it real close so you could see the corners and edges), but I've mentioned before that for me, when it comes to vintage, condition is not all that imprtant to me. This card definitly fits my vintage goal that I set as part of my 2012 Card Collecting Goals. I never knew, or had forgotten, but Winfield was a pitcher in college, and a darn good one at that. He was the 1973 College World Series MVP as a pitcher, before being drafted by the San Diego Padres (MLB), Minnesota Vikings (NFL), Atlanta Hawks (NBA), and Utah Stars (ABA). I'm glad he choose baseball!

I picked up a trifecta without even realizing it!

Yesterday I stopped at my local card shop, AZ Sports Cards. The owner had recently bought a collection and had some nice vintage stuff at good prices. He also had a dealer that he had not heard from in over a year, so he decided to liquidate his stuff, with lots of rookie cards, jersey, and auto's for a buck each. There was another case that had just reduced their prices as well, so I took advantage of the current situation and picked up three cards. I didn't realize until this morning that I had picked up an auto,a relic, and a rookie card: a trifecta. The trifecta though is not of the same player. I'll start by showing the auto. It's a 2008 UD Goudey Kelly Johnson Goudy Graphs Auto. Kelly spent the 2010 season and most of last season with the D-Backs before being traded to Toronto. I'd really like an auto lic of Johnson as a D-Back but I'm not sure if one exists. He does have a few D-Backs jersey carrds from this years Triple Threads and Marquee though, so if anyone out there has a Kelly Johnson D-Backs auto or jersey cards and wants to trade for this one of him in a Braves uniform, let me know. I'll show you the relic (3000 Hit Club Bat Card) and the rookie card (HOF) that I picked up over the next couple of days.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Steve Bechler Auto

Here's another card I picked up at a card shop this past weekend. It's a 2002 Donruss Significant Signatures card of Baltimore Oriole pitcher Steve Bechler. Bechler was a pitching prospect that died of heatstroke during Spring Training 2003. Sad story.

Card Shop Pick-Up: Roberto Alomar Bat

I picked up this 2000 Fleer Gamers, Gamers Lumber, Roberto Alomar Bat Card at a card shop this past weekend. I remember when these cards first came out and I've always really liked the layout and design of the cards. I picked this up because Alomar just got into the Hall of Fame last year and I don't have any memorabiia cards of his. If someone wanted to trade for this card though, I would be willing to listen to trade offers.

Card Shop Pick-Up

I'm assuming that I'm going to be preaching to the choir here, but how come my wife doesn't understand that if our family goes to Dairy Queen for a tasty treat and I choose not to partake, then I should be able to spend a few bucks on baseball cards. It seems like a pretty simple concept to me, but every time a situation like this occurs she gets really upset. I just don't get it. I could have spent money on item A, but I choose not to. Instead, I choose to buy baseball cards.

Yesterday we were out and about and decided to go to Dairy Queen, which happens to be close to my local card shop. I told my wife that I didn't want anything at Dairy Queen, but that I would like to stop by the card shop and pick up a card that I had seen there just a few days earlier. I got "the sigh" and "the rolling of the eyes" from her and "the talk" about how I am spending too much money on baseball cards. So, without further ado, here are the cards I got at the card shop.

2003 Bowman Chrome Brandon Webb Rookie Card - I was pretty sure I didn't have this one already and for $0.75 it was too cheap to pass up. After getting home, I checked and I did not already have this one, so that puts me at 195 different Brandon Webb cards.



1996 Leaf Signature Series Al Leiter Auto - I was watching a Roberto Clemente tribute on MLB tv the other day and they featured Al Leiter because he was one of the winners of the Roberto Clemente Award. I had seen this in the $2 box the last time I was at the shop and wanted it.

So there you have it. I spent a whopping $2.75 at the card shop, which is about what my wife spent on her Dairy Queen blizzard. Maybe some day she will understand, but I doubt it.

Card Shop Pick-Up and a Question

Yesterday I took my two oldest boys, Kolby 5 and Brady 3, to the card shop. I'm trying to get them into collecting, so I told them that they could each have $2 to buy their very own card. My 5 year old picked out a really cool auto with his $2 and I was able to finally help my 3 year old pick out a jersey card of a future Hall of Famer. I'll post their cards soon. I picked up this 2009 Topps Unique Dual Distinction David Wright / Jose Reyes jersey card numbered 89/99 for $2. The Wright jersey is red and the Reyes jersey is gold. My question is, what jersey do you think these pieces are from? I'm thinking maybe an all-star game weekend jersey, but I'm not sure. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Card Shop Pick-Up

I'm back. No excusses for my lack of posts recently, but I'm back. Stopped at the card shop yesterday on the way home from work and purused a big box of $2 relics and autos, finally finding one that I decided to pull the trigger on. It's a 2001 Upper Deck Big League Challenge Jersey Card of Jose Canseco. I'm not a huge fan of Canseco, but I like game/event specific memorabilia, so I decided to get it.
