Edwin Jackson's No-Hitter

Congratulations go out to Edwin Jackson of my Arizona Diamondbacks as he pitched a no-hitter today against the Tampa Bay Rays! Jackson pitched the second no-hitter in D-Backs history, as Arizona beat Tampa Bay 1-0 on an Adam LaRoche solo home run in the second inning. Jackson gave up 8 walks and threw a career-high 149 pitches in the no-hitter.

0 hits, 9 left on base - something you don't see very often.

Jackson and teammates celebrate on the field after the no-hitter.

Would you ever knock on someone's door and ask for an autograph?

Would you ever knock on someone's door and ask for an autograph? I was in Las Vegas this past week for my nephew's high school graduation. He went to Las Vegas High School, the same school that Bryce Harper, this years #1 Draft Pick attended before dropping out after his sophomore year so that he could get his GED and enter the MLB draft 2 years early. My brother's family know the Harper family a little bit, but apparently they aren't comfortable getting his autograph, because the last time they were down visiting I gave them a baseball and Beckett to try to get signed, but they haven't. While in Vegas, we were headed back to my brother's house and I asked my nephews to show me where Bryce Harper lived, so we drove by his house. My nephews and wife wanted me to walk up and knock on the door and ask for his autograph right then and there. I thought that would be a bit stalker-ish, so I said no. We went back to my brothers house and I convinced my nephew to call the Harpers and see if Bryce was there and ask if we could come over to get an autograph. He called, but no one answered. We had to leave early the next morning, so alas I still do not have a Bryce Harper autograph.

Have you ever knocked on someones door and asked for an autograph? Would you if you had the opportunity?

Card Shop Purchase - On-Deck Circle

I picked up this 2004 Topps Clubhouse Albert Pujols All-Atar Appeal Relics On-Deck Circle card at the card shop yesterday. The On-Deck Circle was used during the 2003 MLB All-Star Game and the card is numbered 82/90. I enjoy cards like this that feature memorabilia from specific games/events, so when I saw this card I had to add it to my personal collection. I probably paid too much for it, $15, but I figured I could spend $15 and get an awesome card or I could spend $15 on a pack or two and end up with nothing.

The D-Train delivers in Arizona

I inherited $300 worth (6 - $50 tickets) of tickets to yesterdays Diamondbacks game against the Colorado Rockies. Thanks Brent! They were great seats and the D-Backs won! What more could you ask for? Well how about seeing the D-Train, Dontrelle Willis, in his Diamondbacks pitching debut. I thought he pitched well, giving up 5 hits and 4 walks in 6 shutout innings. He also got a single in his first at bat of the season and scored the Diamondbacks first run of the game on a headfirst slide in a play at the plate.

The D-Backs bullpen came in in the 7th inning and gave up 3 runs, but the D-Backs were able to hold on for a 4-3 victory. I took my 4 year old to the game and was a little nervous because he has never been to an entire MLB game before. The first couple of innings were brutal, but once he got some popcorn and a hot dog he settled down. We all got D-Backs batting helmets as the promotional giveaway for the game and the D-Backs were running a promotion where if you turned in 25 completed All-Star ballots then you got a Justin Upton / Dan Haren 2009 All-Star lithograph, so I got one of those. It's pretty sweet! I'll try to post a picture of it soon. The Diamondbacks have a serious 2 game win streak going on right now. Ubaldo Jimenez, (10-1, 0.78 ERA) today's starting pitcher for the Rockies had better watch out!
