Trade with GCRL: Part 1

Back in December I posted about my desire to put together the 2002 SP Legendary Cuts set. Jim, of the blog Garvey Cey Russell Lopes, or GCRL let me know that he had a few cards for me to help me with the set. I got Jim's package today and was really excited with everything that he sent! Here are 5 cards I needed for the Legendary Cuts set. Thanks Jim! I just love the look of these cards and think they did a great job choosing the players and photos!

 

eBay Pick-Up: 2012 Five Star Justin Upton Jersey Auto 53/97

I picked up this 2012 Topps Five Star Justin Upton Jersey Auto numbered 53/97 off eBay recently. I got it for $16.48 shipped which I thought was a decent price. It used to be that you couldn't get a Justin Upton auto for under $30, but two sub par seasons have really brought prices down.

 

 

There have been constant trade rumors again this off season involving Justin Upton. One thing is sure. The Diamondbacks have too many outfielders. Upton, Kubel, Eaton, Parra, and Ross. Someone has got to go.

Trade with Hot Corner Cards

In my mailbox yesterday was a padded envelope from Pat of the blog Hot Corner Cards. Pat is somewhat new to the blogging community but is putting out quality posts on a regular basis. Be sure to go give him a sub. Pat's a Tigers fan so I sent him the Tigers I pulled from my 2012 Heritage box and some other Tigers cards for his growing collection. He sent me a 1988 Topps Traded Roberto Alomar RC from my Want List ans some awesome D-Backs cards. Thanks Pat!

2012 Allen & Ginter Ryan Roberts Mini - I have this one, but as soon as my oldest son heard that he shouted, "Can I have it! Can I have it!" so it's going to a good home.

 

 

2012 Topps Timeless Talents Andre Dawson / Justin Upton insert - Very cool card that I didn't have!

Next up are a couple of cards that I'm not very familiar with. 2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition Luis Gonzalez and a 2005 Bowman Heritage Javier Vasquez (must be some sort of parallel).

 

 

 

Pat sent me 5 different Brandon Webb cards. I did not have these two, so that was awesome to add them to my Brandon Webb PC!

 

 

 

The next two cards from 2011 and 2010 Topps inspired me to go through all my D-Backs cards and try to put together the base Topps Diamondbacks Team Sets for each year 1998 - 2012. Thanks a lot Pat! Just kidding! I'm glad I am working on the team sets, but I just realize how much I still need and that is somewhat daunting.

 

 

Best work white elephant gift EVER!

A week or so before Christmas we had a white elephant gift exchange at my work. If you are not familiar with how a white elephant gift exchange works, allow me to explain. Everyone brings a wrapped gift and places them in a pile. Each person then draws a number, 1 through the total number of people that are participating in the gift exchange. Then the person with the #1 picks a gift fro
m the pile and opens it. The person with #2 then takes their turn. They can steal the #1's gift or open a new one. Then it's #3's turn and they can steal any gift available or open a new gift. Gifts can only be stolen 3 times. A gift can't be stolen after that. Hopefully you get the idea.

In my work white elephant gift exchange I drew #1, so I couldn't steal anything and had to open a present. This is what I opened.

My only hope was that someone would steal it from me and I could have a shot at a different gift, but nobody stole it from me and I was stuck with a Lint Lizard.
 

So you're probably wondering why the title of my post says "Best work white elephant gift EVER!" Well, a few days after the gift exchange I was at Wal-Mart and noticed that they sold the Lint Lizard, so the next day I returned the Lint Lizard to Wal-Mart and got $11 and some change in store credit. The gift card was then used to buy some cold medicine for my wife who was sick at the time. In my mind though that $11 and some change was mine to get whatever I wanted. Here's what I picked up from eBay a few days later for $10.06 shipped.

Is it a rainbow if it's only 4 cards?

I made a purchase from the new COMC.com before the end of the year to take advantage of free shipping. I picked up a few cards to help me complete a trade two years in the making and I picked up several cards that I needed to help me either finish or start a few projects.

Up first are two cards of Ryan Roberts from 2006 Topps '52 set that help me complete a small rainbow. I picked up the base and the chrome version numbered to 1952 to go with the chrome refractor version numbered to 552 and the gold chrome refractor version numbered to 52 that I already had.

 

 

 

 

1970 Fleer World Series Cards

Two days into the new year and I add 1000+ cards to my collection. 1000+ more cards to organize. At least they were all baseball. Plus I got them for $3, so it was too hard to pass up. I'll show off a few of the cards over the next couple of days.

I did come accross some cards that I didn't know existed that I think are pretty cool. They are 1970 Fleer World Series cards. I had no idea that Fleer was making cards before 1981. I bought 2 lots of cards tonight at an auction at my LCS and in one of the lots was 16 of these 1970 Fleer World Series cards. The back of the cards say 1968, but after a quick eBay search I discovered that they are from 1970. It's a 66 card set that features a card for every World Series played from 1903 - 1969. This would be a really cool set to collect. The cards I got though are in really rough shape. Here is one of the cards.
