Question for the Blogosphere

Most collectors know that the 1990 Upper Deck Reggie Jackson autographed cards were the first certified autographed cards inserted into packs. Most collectors know that the first baseball jersey cards were produced by Upper Deck in 1997. My question for you is, when/what was the first redemption card? I have one from 1999 SP Signature Edition of Ruben Mateo. I know the card is not worth much on its own, but if it's one of the first redemption cards then I'd keep it as part of baseball card history. If anyone knows of any earlier redemption cards please let me know. Thanks!

I know it's a little hard to read on the scan so here is a transcript.
