You learn something new every day.

After I posted that I was going to try to complete the 2020 Topps archives set I got an email from Jay of the Card Hemorrhage, and he'd said he had some cards to help me out. I got his cards fairly quickly and I still need to get your cards together and get them in the mail Jay.

I picked one card from each group within the set to share. First up is a card of the MVP of the 2020 World Series. I was rooting for the Rays to win the World Series, but it was not meant to be. Seager did have a nice series, but I thought the MVP award might have gone to Kershaw who won 2 games, giving up just 3 runs with 14 strikeouts.

For the 1974 design I picked this Sammy Sosa card because I don't seem to see many Sosa cards these days. The first thing I noticed about this card was the C on his sleeve. I wasn't familiar with this patch. I learned that Sosa was a captain on the Cubs in 2000 and 2001, so this photo must be from one of those two years. Sosa was one of 6 Cubbies to wear the C as a Captain in those two years. In addition to those 6 Cubs players, only 7 other players have worn a C on their uniform to designate them as a Captain. I love learning about stuff like this and now I'm on a quest to find cards of all 13 players featuring the Captain C.

Whitey Ford passed away last month and I picked this card to represent the 2002 Topps design. Seems like  more Hall of Famers have passed away in 2020 than in any recent year. I hope that we are done for a while.

Jay sent me 30+ cards and I think I am down to 147 cards for the set, so I am just over half way there. Thanks again Jay!

  2. To all those people who've said "I was rooting for the Rays but ...":

    Ha!

Except for actual Rays fans though. I just feel bad for them.
