9 Card Tribute for Bob Walk the Plank

Last Saturday we all found out that one of the best blogs and one of the best bloggers out there was retiring. Matt, of Bob Walk the Plank fame made the honorable decision to spend more time with his family and less time blogging. I think we all get, it he will certainly be missed.

Today's the last day to enter my contest and it's been fun to see a few other bloggers pay tribute to Matt as part of my contest. I thought I'd do the same.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Matt and his brother last year for a D-Backs vs. Pirates game. It was great to meet up with Matt in person!

Matt and I made a blind trade that day and this David Peralta card was one of the cards he brought me. Peralta is having a solid year and just played in his 500th D-Backs game. Not bad for a guy who started as a pitcher with the Cardinals and then was out of baseball for a while before coming back as an outfielder 

Matt is one of the most generous traders out there. Between trades and a contest win here are some of my favorite cards that I've gotten from Matt over the years.

Matt, you will certainly be missed in the blog-o-sphere, but I'm glad you're going to still be active on Twitter so we can keep in touch. If you're ever back in Phoenix let me know and we'll catch another D-Backs game.

Trade with Tim

I posted about a month ago about my Reggie Jackson PC and it resulted in a trade with Tim. Tim sent a nice sized stack of cards my way, but I'm just going to focus on 9 since I recently celebrated my 9th blog-o-versary. Thanks Tim!

Lets start with a couple of Reggie Jackson cards. I needed this 1982 Topps All-Star card.

This Topps reprint will have to tide me over until I'm able to pick up the real thing.

Shelby Miller just returned to the D-Backs after being out for over a year.

The D-Backs are also getting Robbie Ray back from the disabled list this week.

Pretty sure I needed this card for the 2018 Donruss Diamondbacks team set. I have to double check.

When Twitter and the Blog-o-sphere collide.

In keeping with my 9 theme I'm going to share my favorite 9 cards from a recent trade with Tim from I Love the Smell of Cardboard in the Morning. Time actually reached out to me on Twitter to initiate the trade.

Tim sent some good stuff, but here are my 9 favorite cards.

9. Here's a 2015 Stadium Club gold parallel. Patrick Corbin is having a nice season. There is talks that he'll be gone after this season, likely to New York. I hope not.

8. This Topps Heritage Chrome parallel of Justin Upton is numbered is numbered on the back and came with a matching Miguel Montero.

7. You can't tell from this picture, but this is a 2018 Gypsy Queen card of David Peralta. It happens to be the Bazooka back version.

6. Next up are some lesser seen parallels of A.J. Pollock. 2014 Topps Green only available in retail rack packs.

5. 2016 Topps Toys R Us purple.

4. 2015 Topps Snow Camo numbered to 99.

3. Topps Chrome Pink Refractor of a Jake Lamb RC.

2. Topps Scouting Report Paul Goldschmidt Jersey.

1. This was the main card of the trade. It's a 2017 Bowman Platinum Platinum Presence orange parallel numbered to 25.

CONTEST

Alright, who's ready for a contest? To celebrate my 9 year blog-o-versary I'm holding a contest. Remember how I told you that the rest of my posts in June would would be related to the number 9? To enter I need you to do a post with 9 cards and provide the link to your post in the comments section below.

It can be any 9 cards. It can be your 9 most valuable cards. 9 cards from your favorite team. 9 cards that you want to trade. 9 cards you hate. Any 9 cards.

I'm going to go with 9 cards of my favorite player.

1. Let's start with a rookie card. Not just any rookie card. It's his 2011 Topps Update Rookie gold parallel numbered out of 2011.

2. Speaking of gold parallels. I love gold parallels of Goldy and this Topps Chrome Gallery of Greats parallel numbered to 50 is a sweet looking card. 

3. I have several versions of this card, but this is my favorite. Not only does it feature a great looking patch and numbered to 10, but I got it for under $10.

4. I've got 6 different Five Star Goldschmidt autographed cards, but this base card numbered to 75 is far more rare than any of them.

6. 2015 Topps Tribute Black Printing Plate. In addition to this one, I also have the magenta and yellow version. I just need the cyan and I could print my own cards.

9. My most recent addition. A 2018 Topps In the Name 2017 All-Star event-worn relic.

Hall of Fame Friday - Ted Williams

The career numbers for Ted Williams are staggering and he missed three full seasons and parts of two others due to military service. If you project out his career stats factoring in the missed time he would rank sixth in hits, fourth in home runs, and first in RBI.
