Are you ready for some football?

I collect baseball cards, but every once in a while I will have a laps in judgement and purchase a basketball or football card. Such was the case yesterday when I picked up this Kyler Murray card. 

Maybe I grabbed it because the NFL season starts this week. Maybe it is because I'm a Cardinals fan. Maybe it's because it's a beautiful card. I'm not sure of the exact reason, but whatever the reason, I gladly plopped down a dime for the card.

Here's the back. "For years, the Cardinals have produced talented pass-catchers like Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin but have lacked top-notch QB's." Whoever wrote this must have forgotten about Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner that led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl in 2009 or Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Palmer, that took the Cardinals to the NFC Championship in 2015.

Here's hoping Kyler Murray is able to lead the now Fitzgerald-less Cardinals to much success this NFL season!

Offer Up Purchase: 1980 - 1986 TCMA Baseball Immortals set

The U-Haul box of cards I bought a few weeks back off of Offer Up contained a 1980 - 1986 Baseball Immortals set. 

This is probably the highlight of the entire purchase for me. I had actually been looking on eBay at this same set just a few days before I made the purchase, but the sets that I was looking at were in the $45-$50 range and I wasn't ready to make that type of commitment. Good thing I didn't. I was able to add this set and a bunch of other sets and cards for $50 total. 

I do still need the final 3 cards from the set, issued in 1987. If anyone has an extra Billy Williams (#197), Catfish Hunter (#198), or Ray Dandridge (#199), please let me know. 

I have seen singles from this set over the years, but never the complete set, so here it is, in all it's glory.

Very cool set featuring every member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame up to that point. Who out there has this set? There are some interesting picture choices. Anyone have a favorite?

Offer Up Purchase: 1987 Donruss The Rookies

When I think of boxed sets from the 1980's I first think about Fleer, but Donruss also put out a few boxed sets back in the day. Yesterday I showed of a 1986 Donruss Highlights boxed set and today it is a 1987 Donruss The Rookies boxed set from the same Offer Up purchase.

The box was open, but the cards were still in the cellophane wrapper.This was another set that I didn't already have, so I was happy to find it in the big U-Haul box.

1987 was a big year for rookies, which probably explains the reason debuted this set in 1987. The setstarts off with probably the biggest rookie at that time. Mike Greenwell, Ellis Burks, and Devon White are also significant names on the first page. DeWayne Buice isn't the biggest name in baseball, but he certainly played a big part in the history of baseball cards.

Bo Jackson is the biggest name on page two. 

Terry Steinbach had a nice career. He would make the All-Star team in 1988, 1989, and 1993 and was name MVP of the 1988 mid summer classic.

Fred McGriff should be in the Hall of Fame. Maybe in 2022. David Cone had an amazing career as well. He was a 5 time All-Star and won 5 World Series with the Blue Jays and the Yankees. He won the 1994 A.L. Cy Young Award and pitched a perfect game in 1999.

Benito Santiago and Matt Williams has solid careers.

Rafael Palmiero and Greg Maddux both make the set in a Cubs uniform.

A week or so ago I picked up the Clemente puzzle card, not realizing where it was from. Now I know.
