Vintage from my LCS

My oldest son and I went to my LCS on Wednesday night for an auction. I only ended up spending $0.75 during the auction for this 1964 Topps Milwaukee Braves team card.

I'm not including the team cards as part of my Topps Hank Aaron project, but for less than a buck I thought I'd add this piece of cardboard featuring a minuscule Hank Aaron. 

I picked up this 1968 Topps The Sporting News All Star Selection card of Bob Clemente for a $2 bill. Okay, I didn't actually pay with a $2 bill, but it did cost two dollars. 

It's creased..yes. And the corners aren't perfect, but for a $2 bill. Oh there I go again. I was happy to part with two dollars for this sweet card!

Christmas Package from Baseball Card Breakdown

Earlier this week I got an unexpected Christmas package from Gavin, of the blog Baseball Card Breakdown. Thank you very much Gavin!

Gavin runs a great blog and is always coming up with new and creative stuff for the blogosphere!

Here is an example of what Gavin is doing/has done. Here is a custom Carsdphere Heroes card of Ken Griffey Jr. that Gavin created. Great photo choice and a great design!

Here's the back! Another great photo and Gavin even mentioned my blog along with several others. How cool is that! To top it off, Gavin added a different color star to each card he made so that each is a 1/1! Love it! Thanks Gavin!

Next up are the other cards that Gavin sent. Here is a card of the pitcher who threw the first pitch in D-Backs history, Andy Benes and one of the pitcher who threw the last pitch in D-Backs history, at least up until the end of the 2015 season, Brad Ziegler.

Here are a couple of Stadium Club Chrome cards. I believe these were from a box break that Gavin did earlier this year. 

Here's a nice Topps Chrome Chris Owings. 

Last, but certainly not least, are a couple of Luis Gonzalez. The Ultimate Victory parallel looks AMAZING in person and is numbered 053/100! Thank you so much Gavin for an awesome package!

The rest of my comc order!

My last couple of posts have featured cards I got from comc.com recently that completed some insert sets. 

Here is the rest of my order. 

This is a great looking set and the gold parallels are numbered to 50. You'll notice that I'm somewhat partial to gold Goldschmidt cards.

This is the paper gold parallel which is also numbered to 50.

This gold Topps Tek parallel is numbered to 99.

Ben Petrick has an amazing story and I try to pick up his cards every now and then. I got this one for $0.75. The autograph looks fantastic!

I added a couple of Brandon Webb cards to my collection. The autograph is numbered to 299 and the bat card is numbered to 25. 

Next up are a couple of autographs from a couple of current and one former D-Back.

To finish off my order here are a couple of autographs from players that left us too soon. 

1996 Upper Deck V.J. Lovero Collection

This was another insert set that I've had my eye on for a long time. After picking up about half from a dime box at the same card show that I got the Pitcher Perfect cards from I decided to finish off the set using comc.

V.J. Lovero was a phenomenal photographer who worked for Sports Illustrated, among others. His photographs graces the cover of SI 39 times. Lovero passed away in 2004 from cancer at the age of 44.

This 1996 Upper Deck insert set features some of Lovero's greatest work.

1997 Score Pitcher Perfect

I got about half of these out of a dime box at a card show a couple of weeks ago and so I picked up the rest on comc.com over Thanksgiving weekend. Believe it or not the Chili Davis card was the most expensive of the batch that I picked up on comc at just over $1.

For this insert set Score commissioned future Hall of Fame pitcher, Randy Johnson, to take some pictures. Randy is actually an accomplished photographer.

I don't think I ever had any of these at the time, but I remember seeing them and always liked them especially the Ripken and Rodriguez cards.
