D-Backs Alumni Night: Autographs (Part #2)

My oldest son and I went to the D-Backs game last night. It was Alumni Night and so we spent an hour before the game and the first 5 innings trying to get autographs upstairs by the entrance to the club area where the alumni players and their families were at during the game.

When we arrived, Travis Lee was there and we got him to sign 3 cards. Lee was in and out of the club area all night and signed for everyone that asked. He was super nice!

Waiting 'til Next Year sent me this card in January and I remember thinking how good it would look signed. I was right!

Luis Gonzalez was next. He signed for everyone as well and was really nice as usual.

Steve Finley was the next to sign. He signed one of three for me and then signed our jumbo ticket for my son. he used our Sharpie marker to sign several more autographs and then went to hand back my marker. He then signed an additional card and gave me my Sharpie back.

Reggie Sanders left the club to do an interview. As he left he said he would sign when he came back. He was true to his word and signed 2 out of 3 cards for me. The one card he didn't sign was him in a Pirates uniform, so I was glad he signed these two D-Backs cards.

Junior Spivey signed 1 out of 3 cards for us and didn't seem like he wanted to be there.

When Brandon Webb arrived he saw me fumbling through my binder of cards, so he walked over and waited patiently for me to find his page and signed all 3 cards for me and then signed for everyone else. He's such a nice guy!

David Dellucci left to do an interview and said he would sign when he returned. He did and I got these 3 cards signed. he was the last person that we got to sign.

D-Backs Alumni Night: Autographs (Part #1)

My oldest son and I went to the D-Backs game last night. It was Alumni Night and so we spent an hour before the game and the first 5 innings trying to get autographs. We were able to get several autographs; mostly on cards, but we got two other items signed.

First up is the D-Backs Insider magazine. I got 3 out of the 4 players on the cover and the one I didn't get was Luis Gonzalez. He shouldn't be hard to get. I got him on some cards last night, but it was before I got the magazine.

The other item is one of the jumbo tickets from the 2001 World Series. We got Mike Morgan, Reggie Sanders, Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, and David Dellucci.

D-Backs Alumni Night: Bob Brenly Bobblehead

Last night was Alumni Night at the Diamondbacks game and Bob Brenly bobbleheads were given out. This is my 51st D-Backs bobblehead. Only 12 more to go! You can check out my progress here.

Here is a picture of all of them. A few of them are hiding behind others and aren't visable.

Some Wicked cards!

Alfredo...aka wickedortega...aka Wicked, of the blog now titled Wicked Toys, was a powerhouse in the blogosphere a few years ago. He took some time off from blogging and came back offering up some cool cards at great prices. I jumped at some of his vintage cards (mostly Pirates from the late 50's and early 60's) and won a contest as well, so Alfredo sent along some D-Backs as a prize, but he really went overboard with his generosity. Thanks Alfredo!

Here are the 7 cards that I purchased for $1 each plus $3 for shipping, so $10 total.

Alfredo threw in some extra vintage!

Alfredo sent me D-Backs cards for being the first to comment on a post, but most of the cards he sent are just because he's a good guy! Thanks again Alfredo!

Autograph Opportunity: Frank Thomas

I got an email today about an autograph signing for Frank Thomas in December. Honestly growing up I was not a fan of Frank Thomas. My favorite player was Ken Griffey Jr.and if you remember anything about Beckett from the 1990's it was the Hot List. It was on the last glossy page right before the actual price guide portion of the magazine. For years, Griffey and Thomas battled it out for the #1 spot of the Hot List. It was just hard for me to like a guy that was in constant competition with my favorite player.

Over the years I have come to respect and admire what Thomas did on the baseball field.

I'd love to meet "The Big Hurt" and get his autograph, but I can't imagine paying $99 for a baseball or flat item plus $35 for an inscription. A bat, equipment, or jersey would set me back $129. Reggie Jackson is signing at the same location in September with an $89 price tag for a baseball and $40 for an inscription. I can't imagine paying that either, so while I'd love to have autographs of both I'll have to pass this time.
