- Add 5 Topps sets to my collection (1981 - 2017). I only have 5 years right now, so that gives me a lot to choose from. I added 7 Topps sets in 2017 (1984, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1995, 1998, and 2004).
- Put together 10 insert sets. I need to narrow my list down because there are so many great insert sets to choose from, but I already have several in mind. I know I completed our bought multiple inserts sets in 2017, but I can't put a number on it. I just didn't keep track. Probably in the 5 -10 range.
- Add 3 autographed baseballs to my collection. Official Major League Baseballs are pricey, so I tend to be very selective about who I have autograph a baseball and I want these to be in person autographs. Added 3 autographed baseballs to my collection in 2017; all D-Backs (David Peralta, Robbie Ray, and Jake Lamb). I got Lamb in person and won the other two at D-Backs events.
- Send out at least 60 ttm autograph requests. 5 requests per month should be easy enough and hopefully I'll average about 1 return per week. I didn't do well in this are in 2017. I didn't send out many requests and didn't track them very well. I'm going to focus on this more in 2018.
- Add 10 cards to my Ryan Roberts collection. There aren't many Roberts cards left that I don't already have, so I had to set the goal fairly low. Picked up a few Ryan Roberts cards in 2018 via comc, but I don't think I got to 10. Maybe around 5.
- Add 50 cards to my Paul Goldschmidt collection. Goldy is my favorite current D-Back player. I picked up over 150 new Goldschmidt cards in 2018. This was my primary focus in 2018 and it shows. I've documented 145 additions as of the writing of this post, but have about 20 additional cards I've picked up recently that need to be added.
- Add 10 vintage cards to my Hank Aaron collection. My overall goal is to acquire every Topps base card from his playing days. If my count is correct Aaron has 68 Topps cards between 1954 and 1976. I think I have 24 of them currently. Picked up a few, but haven't kept track.
- Add 10 additional vintage cards to my collection. For this goal, I'm going to say that vintage will include anything prior to 1981. The cards need to be of star players, but not necessarily Hall of Famers. I've picked up a few that would fall in this category, but haven't kept track.
- Add 100 cards to my Ken Griffey Jr. collection. I need to organize and document my Griffey collection and am excited to add to it. Thanks to The Great Griffey Giving Box, I was able to add 116 Griffey cards to my collection in 2017 and I organized my Griffey collection.
- Obtain a 1997 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. Game Jersey card. My White Whale. Still my White Whale.
- Add 100 cards to my Mike Piazza collection. I need to organize and document my Piazza collection and am excited to add to it. Don't think I was able to add 100 Piazza cards, but I did organize my Piazza collection, so now I can keep track.
- Finish my First Night Game at Wrigley Field project. I only need three more to complete the project (Mitch Webster, Damon Berryhill, and Darrin Jackson), No progress.
- Finish my Super Bowl Autograph Project. I think I need 6 more. No progress. I think I'll need to change my standards. I previously said that it would have to be someone that scored points for the team that won. Now, I'll just go for someone on the winning team.
- Add to my 2005 Prime Patches Steve Finley Collection. Not putting a number on this because I don't know if there is an actual checklist. Was able to add one card and I'm happy about that, since there aren't many left I need.
- Add 5 Hall of Famers Autographs to my collection. These can be ttm, in-person, or certified but they have to be new to my collection. Didn't do a good job focusing on this or tracking it.I know I was able to add a Duke Snider certified auto to my collection thanks to Judson.
If I had to grade myself based on my goals I'd give myself a B. I did get at certain goals and horrible in others. I blew my Goldschmidt goal out of the water and finally organized my Griffey and Piazza collections. One thing that kept jumping out at my while reviewing my progress was that I didn't keep track of most of my goals very well in 2017. I'll have to change that in 2018.
