The most expensive single card purchase I made over the past couple months was this 1956 Topps Phil Rizzuto card. I picked it up at an auction at my LCS for $3.50.
Rizzuto spent 13 years with the Yankees before being released mid-season 1956. You can see that in 1955 Rizzuto on saw action in 81 games. In 1956 he only played in 31 games.
This was his last Topps card produced during his playing career.
It's the only card I have of the Scooter from his playing days.
The card is rough, as you can see, but I feel like I got a real bargain.
Holy cow, that's an awesome card! Nice bargain!
ReplyDeleteFun fact, the Staten Island Yankees' mascot Scooter The Holy Cow was named after Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto.
