The 1986 Topps Traded set is a 132 card set that was sold as a boxed set. The "Traded" Series gave Topps the opportunity to feature players on new teams that had been traded during the season and rookie cards of players who didn't make it into the regular set. The set features a nice variety of star rookie or "XRC" cards with the likes of Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco and Bo Jackson leading the way. The cards were printed in Ireland.
Here are the front and backs of all 132 cards. Let me know your thoughts on the 1986 Topps Traded set.
I ran into a stack of these within the collection I was gifted. Canseco's card was the highlight, but I also liked the Terry Francona Cubs card and the Jim Leyland card. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think that rookie class compares favorably with the class of 2017. Kruk, Will Clark, Bonilla are couple more good names.
I don't know the exact year when this was true (maybe 89 or 90?), but there was a time when this set was destined to be Topps' version of the 1984 Fleer Update Set. Despite the fact that other sets had them too in '86, it was a big deal that this traded set had the first Topps cards of Bonds, Bo Jackson, Canseco, and Will Clark. These big rookies as well as guys like Bobby Bonilla, Danny Tartabull, Bip Roberts, Wally Joyner, and John Kruk.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card in this set is Mike Heath.
The bright backs is what I remember most about the Topps Traded sets of the late 80's. They were easy to spot in a stack of cards. My favorite in 1986 was Tom Seaver, a favorite player of mine who finally was on my favorite team.
ReplyDeleteI like all of the '80s Traded sets. I keep meaning to pick up this one, although I think I've pulled half of it in repacks.
ReplyDeleteThis was either the first or second Topps Traded set I purchased. I owned both the 1985 and 1986 sets, but I'm not exactly sure which one I purchased first. The 1986 was loaded back in the day. Bonds, Bonilla, Canseco, Clark, Galarraga, Incaviglia, Jackson, Joyner, Kruk, and Mitchell all had their moments. It's kind of amazing that even with all of those great names, you can still pick up this set for $5 to $10.
ReplyDeleteI remember my dad taking me to the card shop to buy this set.Being a huge Canseco fan It was my best option If I ever wanted a true rookie Canseco card.At that time It was the cheapest of all his other 1986 rookie cards.I still have my childhood set but I'm missing the Bo and Barry Bonds cards.
ReplyDeleteIreland? So odd. The Mike Heath card is quite nice. Great action shot! I think part of the reason most traded sets bore me is the lack of action. Most seem to be portrait style shots, perhaps for easier air-brushing.
