Such was the case a week ago, when at a card show I found 15 autographed cards from 2000 and 2001 Royal Rookies. It's an unlicensed product, but they are they are certified autographs and at only 10 cents each I put them in my pile.
These first five are from 2000 and are up for trade if anyone wants them.
Billy Traber spent 5 years in the big leagues with the Indians, Nationals, Yankees, and Red Sox and compiled a 12-14 record with a 5.65 ERA.
The rest of the cards are from 2001 and are all part of the Futures autograph insert set. It's only 40 cards and the biggest names in the set ate Hank Blalock and J.J. Putz, so I'm going to put these cards aside and see if I ever come across any others from the set. The extra Brian Schmack is up for trade.
I actuall got the JJ Putz from that set in a dime box a while back. Having a minor league auto numbered to 6995 is pretty ridiculous, but anytime I can pay 10 cents for a certified minor league auto of a guy who had a decent major league run--especially one who was once a Met--I'm a happy camper.
ReplyDeleteThat's the only certified auto I've ever gotten from a dime box. I got a Willie Randolph in a dime box once which appears to be autographed, but the dealer couldn't say whether it was real or not. (Comparing it to autos posted online, I think it is, but that's hardly definitive.)

DeleteI see these in budget boxes a lot, but never for a dime. If I were more of a team collector type, I'd be all over it. Still, they're pretty good looking cards for what they are and truly appreciate the hand numbering, too.
ReplyDeleteOver a thousand autos in, Schmack still had a nice signature going. Nothing like today's scratch.
