Offer Up Purchase: 1987 Donruss The Rookies

When I think of boxed sets from the 1980's I first think about Fleer, but Donruss also put out a few boxed sets back in the day. Yesterday I showed of a 1986 Donruss Highlights boxed set and today it is a 1987 Donruss The Rookies boxed set from the same Offer Up purchase.

The box was open, but the cards were still in the cellophane wrapper.This was another set that I didn't already have, so I was happy to find it in the big U-Haul box.

1987 was a big year for rookies, which probably explains the reason debuted this set in 1987. The setstarts off with probably the biggest rookie at that time. Mike Greenwell, Ellis Burks, and Devon White are also significant names on the first page. DeWayne Buice isn't the biggest name in baseball, but he certainly played a big part in the history of baseball cards.

Bo Jackson is the biggest name on page two. 

Terry Steinbach had a nice career. He would make the All-Star team in 1988, 1989, and 1993 and was name MVP of the 1988 mid summer classic.

Fred McGriff should be in the Hall of Fame. Maybe in 2022. David Cone had an amazing career as well. He was a 5 time All-Star and won 5 World Series with the Blue Jays and the Yankees. He won the 1994 A.L. Cy Young Award and pitched a perfect game in 1999.

Benito Santiago and Matt Williams has solid careers.

Rafael Palmiero and Greg Maddux both make the set in a Cubs uniform.

A week or so ago I picked up the Clemente puzzle card, not realizing where it was from. Now I know.
