HOF Class of 2017: Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez

Ivan Rodriguez was recently elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted this summer and so I thought I would organize my Ivan Rodriguez collection.

I have 136 different Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez cards.

Here is a breakdown by year. In parenthesis are the number of different cards I have from that year.

1991 (1) Minor League Card

1991 (1) Rookie Card

1992 (2)

1993 (4)

1994 (2)

1995 (4)

1996 (1)

1997 (4)

1998 (7)

1999 (9)

2000 (17)

2001 (1)

2002 (15)

2003 (20)

2004 (19)

2005 (10)

2006 (3)

2007 (5)

2008 (7)

2009 (2)

2010 (2)

Rodriguez played for the Texas Rangers (1991 -2002), Florida Marlins (2003), Detroit Tigers (2004 - 2008), New York Yankees (2008), Houston Astros (2009), Texas Rangers (2009), and Washington Nationals (2010 - 2011).

When I look at my Ivan Rodriguez collection I have a few thoughts.

1) Happy to have a RC and at least 100 cards of the new Hall of Famer. No game used or autograph. Not looking to add any more at this point.

2) I was shocked at how many cards (26) I have of Pudge as a Marlin considering he only spent one year in Florida. The cards are from both 2003 and 2004.

3) I was surprised that there were so many years (11) that I had 4 or fewer cards.

4) In addition to 136 different cards, I have 46 doubles.

5) I have cards of Rodriguez from 5 out of 6 of the teams that he played on and from both his stints with the Rangers I don't have any cards of him with the Yankees.

6) I don't have any cards of Ivan from his final season; 2011. Nothing after 2010.

Let's take a quick look at some card backs and see what we can find out about Pudge.

So there it is, a recap of my Ivan Rodriguez collection. I'm going to do this for the rest of the 2017 Hall of Fame class in future posts.

  1. I was actually surprised to find out that Pudge was only a Marlin for a single season. As a Cubs fan in 2003, the sight of him in teal was seered into my memory so strongly that I always think of him as a Marlin first. Nice PC!

    1. Yeah, based on the amount of cards I had I was super surprised to see that he only played for the Marlins for 1 season.

    2. I love that 1991 Classic card of Pudge. Love seeing the classic catcher pose with all of the billboards in the background.

  3. I'm so pleased Ivan made the Hall! He's a PC for me too though I have no idea at this point how many cards I own. Working on it now! Maybe I'll find that 91 Classic!

    1. The 1991 Classic card is great and it's getting lots of love on this post. Maybe because it's the first card and maybe because it's a little less known that some of the others, but mostly because it's just awesome!
