It's like having my own Card Shop Loyalty Program Update

I've been posting a lot lately. This will be my 42nd post this month. I've been posting so that everyone will have plenty of opportunities to earn points towards my It's like having my own Card Shop Loyalty Program.

The plan was to run the experiment through January and January is almost over. I haven't decided if I will end it on January 31st or if I'll keep it going. There is a lot to consider. Let's review.

Positives
It's forced me to be more active on the blog than I have been for a long time. In addition to my blog, I've also been more active within the blogosphere.

I've had 89 comments from 33 different people comment on since I started the program.

I've tried to reply to each comment, which helps me with tracking, but it also helps me engage more with the blogosphere.

I've added some sweet cards to my collection from fellow bloggers that I may or may not have added if I hadn't had the program going.

Negatives
I've been paranoid about the tracking aspect since it's not something that can be automated. I have to do it manually and for some reason I don't always get notified by email when someone comments. I think I've tracked everything up to this point, but I'm not sure. If I missed anything, please let me know.

I'm not sure everyone is aware of the program. Maybe I need to mention it briefly in every post, so that everyone is aware.

Neutral
By my count there are 7 bloggers with enough points to claim a card, but nobody has as of yet claimed a prize. There are several possible reasons for this. It might be because the prizes aren't desirable. It could be because people aren't sure how many points they have. It might be because people are waiting to earn more points before claiming a something.

Alright, so here's an update.

  1. Do what you will with the loyalty program. I like the idea, but it's not the reason I comment.
I enjoy the community, and although I don't plan on being as active with trades this year I feel I can contribute positively by commenting.
For every comment I make I get an error notification sent to my e-mail box. I found them annoying at first, but then I filtered them to a separate folder. I can now tell how many comments I make over a given time frame fairly quickly. I'm at 138 in 2017... You keep posting and I'll keep commenting if I have something to add to the discussion. :)

  2. 5 points?

Man - I suck. A score that low just means I'm an ass and not reading/commenting enough.

  3. Cool idea I had considered doing this at one point but as you stated it's really hard to keep track

    1. I thought it would be my record, but I posted 65 times in January 2010.

  5. Congratulations on reaching 42 posts! I'm at 10 right now... and should have one more before February. I'd like to eventually get back to the days of having 13 to 15 posts per month. 42? Can't imagine myself doing that. But never say never. Great job buddy!

  6. As with all things blogging, as long as YOU are enjoying it, that's what matters. I am going to keep an eye out for some Goldschmidt stuff when I finally start getting back to the local card shows. I may not comment, but I'm always reading and sharing on my Twitter account (@beansbcardblog).

    1. Thanks for sharing on twitter! You do an awesome job promoting the various blogs on Twitter. I just gave you an extra 20 points for doing so.

  7. Firstly, I'm jealous. If I could post a third often as you've managed this month, I'd be happy! ;) Not sure how I racked up the points so quickly but I assure you, it wasn't exactly planned. I only returned to the blogs to find myself in the midst of your loyalty program. I too, read because your posts are enjoyable but often guilty of not commenting.

    1. I don't blame people for not commenting. I;m guilty of it at times. I've tried to follow the footsteps of some great bloggers and ask a question or two with most of my posts to engage comments.

  8. Your points came from commenting and from the Goldschmidt cards that you sent. 10 points for each new Goldschmidt for my collection.

  9. 42 posts in a month? I don't think I posted 42 times last year.

    1. 42 is a lot. Many of them were done in advance and scheduled.

    2. Can't wait! Lots of Loyalty points for sure! If you can wait until mid March to get tickets I might be able to hook you up. I know you might want to get tickets prior to that though, so whatever you need to do. Also I can't guarantee I'll be able to get tickets to a game you need. Sorry, it's a long story, but I'll reach out to you when I know for sure and see if I can help you and your friends out.
