eBay Pick-Up: 2012 Gypsy Queen Ryan Roberts Sepia Mini

I picked up this 2012 Gypsy Queen Sepia Mini #'d to 99 of eBay last week and it arrived today. Now only 62 more versions to go. Just kidding, but I think there might be 8 different versions, something like that.

Bryce Harper to Make MLB Debut Today

Bryce Harper has been called up to the big leagues and will make his Major League Debut today against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Washington nationals phenom dropped out of high school early, got his GED so that he could be drafted a year earlier. My brother lives a few streets over from the Harpers in Las Vegas and he knows them a little bit. He got this signed Sports Illustrated for me. Bryce seems to be somewhat of a polarizing figure right now. It'll be interesting to see how his career turns out.

JABO's Group Break + Extras

I particiated in my first ever group break a week or so ago. Kyle over at the blog Juuust a bit ouside  opened two boxes of 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen. I picked up the Diamondbacks. I ended up with 10 base cards, 4 of which were doubles. The price was really reasonable, so even though I only got base cards it wasn't too bad. When I got the package from the mailbox I thought to myself, "This is too thick for just the Gypsy Queen." Kyle threw in a bunch of other D-Backs cards. There was some 2012 Heritage, a 2011 Bowman Platinum Justin Upton, several 2001 Stadium Club and a plethura of Topps Chrome from 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2008. Below is just a sampling of the cards. Thanks Kyle!

eBay Pick-Up: Vintage

I picked up this 1962 Topps Ken Hubbs rookie card on eBay recently. This fits my vinatage collection and is also a rookie card of a player that won the Rookie of the Year Award, which is a project I started back in 2010. The card is in great condition considering that it's 50 ears old. Hubbs isn't a household name, but he actually won the 1962 N.L. Rookie of the Year Award while playing second base for the Chicago Cubs. He became the first rookie to win a Gold Glove. He struggled at the plate but was known as one of the best defensive second baseman in all of baseball. He had a fear of flying and decided to confront it head on by getting his pilots licence. On February 13, 1964 he got caught in a storm and the plane he was flying crashed and he was killed.

Cards from Work: Part 2

I've mentioned before that I have a friend at work that is a big baseball fan and collects cards. We haven't really done any trades, but when we see something the other person would like we get it for them. I was the recipient of two amazing cards this week. Thanks Joe!

First up is this 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Daniel Hudson Autograph. It's an on-card suto and I love the throwback uniform that he's wearing!

Next is a 2000 Upper Deck Victory card of Ken Griffey Jr. Joe not only knows I'm a big Griffey fan, but this card also features Griffey with the 1992 All-Star Game MVP trophy so it fits my Cards Featuring Awards collection.

Card Show Pick-Up: Part 4 Justin Upton Auto

The main reason for going to this particular card show was to get a Justin Upton autograph. I was able to get him to sign a 2011 All-Star ball. Below is a picture of him signing the ball and then a picture of the ball. The autograph turned out pretty good, but honestly, he wasn't very "fan friendly". I had to say, "Thanks Justin.", for him to even look at me. He didn't say anything back, he just nodded. Oh well.

Card Show Pick-Ups: Part 3 Brandon Webb Sweet Spot Auto

I looked for bat cards for my 3000 Hit Club Collection, but didn't find any at a reasonable price. I wasn't able to find any vintage cards at the right price either. I did find this 2003 UD Sweet Spot Brandon Webb Auto. I picked it up for $5.

Card Show Pick-Ups: Part 2 - 54 Cents worth of Tribute and Museum Collection

The dealer that had the Gypsy Queen at 10/$1 had several 5000 count dime boxes. I was able to pick-up these 2012 Tribute and Museum Collection cards. Between the Gypsy Queen and these cards I actually got 23 cards from him for $2, so they were actually just under 9 cents apiece.

Card Show Pick-Ups: Part 1 Gypsy Queen

With 2012 Gypsy Queen hitting shelves earlier this week I expected to see quite a bit of it at the show, but I only came accross one dealer with it. He had a ton of it though and all base cards were 10/$1 so I picked up a few. I went specifically looking for Ryan Roberts cards and while I got his base card, I wasn't able to get any mini's. I love the history of the game so I picked up a Clemente, some Yankee Legends, and a trio of Dodgers Greats. I snagged a Griffey and then got a few D-Backs.

Card Show Tomorrow

I'm going to a card show tomorrow. I'll be having Justin Upton sign a 2011 All-Star Baseball. I just saw today that Jim Palmer will be there as well. It's $39 for Palmer, which I think is pretty reasonable, but I don't know if I can spend another $50+ ($39 for the auto and $15-$17 for a ball). I do plan on trying to pick up some Ryan Roberts Gypsy Queen cards at the show. I participated in JAOB's Gypsy Queen box break and got some D-Backs base cards, but no Roberts cards, so I'll see how many different Roberts cards I can find tomorrow to add to my collection. I'm also going to look for a well loved vintage card or two that will fit into my collection (if possible rookie cards of Hall of Famers). I'll also be on the lookout for bat cards for my 3000 Hit Club Bat Card Collection. Wish me luck!

More Cards Featuring Awards

Here are a few more cards that I've come accross recently that fit my Cards Featuring Awards collection. My goal for this collection is to have 50 by the end of the year. So far I have 10.

Dime Box Pick-Ups

I picked up a few cards from the Dime Box at my LCS a few weeks ago. I got a few Dale Murphy cards and some vintage Hall of Famers. Not bad for 70 cents.
