Small Business Saturday at my LCS

I used Small Business Saturday as an excuse to visit my LCS.

There are a bunch of 3200 count boxes on the counter that have 8/$1 cards.

I picked out 32 cards and took them over to the register to pay for them.

The owner of the shop counted them and then told me it would be $3.

I told him I thought there were 32 cards. He told me that he had counted 24 cards and there were only a couple more so he was only going to charge me $3. That works for me!

So the 8/$1 cards ended up costing me just over 9 cents each.

The bulk of the cards I picked up were from the 1981 Topps set and some will make it into my Topps Page-a-Year binder.

I picked out a good assortment of Record Breaker cards...

... a World Series highlight card...

...a bunch of star players...

...and a handful of Hall of Famers.

Here are the rest of the cards.

2 cards for my Jorge Posada mini player collection.

A couple of Griffeys. Not sure if I already have these or not, but at that price I'm not going to pass up a Griffey.

I have a nephew named Jack Wilson, so I try and pick them up when I come across them.

Eventually I'll put this entire subset together.

A couple of Jeter cards highlighting two of his Yankee records.

Erskine signs through the mail and since I already have this for my set I'll send this out to get signed.

Can't pass up a card of a player holding multiple bats for one of my original and most favorite mini collections.

I picked up this card because of the pink arm band because of the recent promotion that the Pirates Treasure Room had in October to promote breast cancer awareness.

I saw this card, or at least the base version of this card, recently on the Dime Boxes and so when I saw it I had to pick it up.

If you are counting you probably are wondering how come there were only 29 cards if I bought 32. I forgot to scan one card, a AL Home Run Leader card from 1981 Topps featuring Reggie Jackson, Ben Oglivie and Mike Schmidt. The other two are for someone else so I won't show them here.

eBay Pick-Up: 2014 Topps Supreme Paul Goldschmidt Auto

I picked up this 2014 Topps Supreme Paul Goldschmidt auto numbered 34/35 off eBay recently.

I know there are a lot of different parallels in Supreme. This one appears to be green, or maybe emerald. It's numbered out of 35 which is a low number, but again, with all the different parallels I don't really consider them all that rare.

It's a sticker auto, which isn't my favorite, but it does make on-card autographs even better.

This is my 16th Goldschmidt auto. 11 on-card and 5 sticker.

Reggie: A Season with a Superstar

I'm reading a book right now called "Reggie: A Season with a Superstar". It's basically Reggie Jackson's journal from the 1974 season.

Whenever I read a baseball book, I always end up looking for baseball cards that relate to what I'm reading. Most of the time they only end up making it onto my mental Want List.

But then I came across this 1974 Topps Reggie Jackson card for $2 at my LCS and jumped on it.

Reggie spends a lot of time talking about his teammates. One of his teammates was Vida Blue. After reading about Blue I checked eBay to see about adding his rookie card to my collection, but didn't pull the trigger because of the shipping costs.

I'm glad I didn't.

I picked up this nice copy of his 1970 Topps rookie card for a quarter.

The 1974 season was also the debut of Herb Washington. The A's owner Charles Finley signed sprinter Herb Washington to a contract as a "designated runner".

This prompted another Google search and a scan of eBay. The cost of shipping outweighed the cost of the card, so I passed, but this 1975 Topps card, the only baseball card to list the position as Pinch Runner, made my mental Want List.

This card came from my LCS's dime box during the same visit that I picked up the two cards above.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through the book, so we'll see if any other cards make my mental Want List.

eBay Pick-Up: 2005 Prime Patches Steve Finley

I picked up a new card for my 2005 Prime Patches Steve Finley collection recently.

For just under $10 bucks shipped I picked up this card. It's a jersey and number patch along with the autograph.

It's numbered on the back 01/25.

I can't show off an new addition without showing off the rest of my 2005 Prime Patches Steve Finley cards.

Some 3 cent 1982 Donruss

My LCS has a nice dime box and I dig through it each time I go, but they also have boxes of "junk wax" sorted by brand and year.

These cards are marked by the box at anywhere between 3-7 cents.

On a recent trip I picked up some 3 cent, 1982 Donruss cards.

I wasn't collecting in 1982...because I was only a year old. But I was happy to pick them up now.

Take a look at how great these cards are!

eBay Pick-Up: 2014 Topps Triple Threads Paul Goldschmidt Transparencies Auto

I haven't bought anything on eBay for about a year. Okay, it was quite a full year. It was almost 2 months, but it felt like a year.

I used my time away from eBay to organize and sort my collection. I'm pretty much done with the first phase of that organizing process and so I decided to celebrate by picking up a card on eBay.

I think I picked a good one.

It's a 2014 Topps Triple Threads Transparencies card of Paul Goldschmidt.

New Bobblehead - 53/63 = 84.1%

I picked up a 2009 Stephen Drew bobblehead that I needed yesterday at my LCS for $5. This is my 53rd different D-Backs bobblehead. I need 10 more. You can check out my list here.

Here is the Drew bobblehead.

The Drew completes the set of 5 from 2009.

Here is an updated picture of the bobblehead shelves.
