A couple of questions for the blogosphere about Justin Upton

Justin Upton is going to be signing autographs at a card show here in Phoenix on Saturday April 21st. Tickets are $65 for flats/balls and $95 for bats/jerseys. What do you think? Is a Justin Upton Autograph worth $65 - $95 dollars?

He's signed at a few events locally over the past couple years, but I've never been able to get him to sign anything personally. I have a Triple Threads Auto and the 2012 All-Star ball signed by him, Miguel Montero, and Kirk Gibson that the Diamondbacks sent me after the situation at Fan Fest this year, but I've never actually met him and gotten his autograph.

I bought a $65 ticket and am excited to meet him. I'm either going to have him sign a regular baseball or a 2011 All-Star Ball. My hesitation on the All-Star ball is because I already have him on an All-Star ball (he is not on the sweet spot though) and because although the game was here in Phoenix and I attended, it's not like he was MVP or even did particularly well in the game. What do you think, regular ball or 2011 All-Star Ball?

  1. A Justin Upton autograph is not worth $65 to me, but I'm not a Diamondbacks fan. If he played for the Mets, I'm sure I'd feel differently.

Regardless, you're not likely to pay less for the opportunity to get an autograph from him in a card show environment.

If it were me, I'd get the 2011 All-Star Game ball signed underneath the AS game logo. (I'd probably try to get single-signed All-Star Game baseballs from any other Diamondbacks who were picked for the game too - it's really a once-in-a-generation thing to have your team host the All-Star Game.)

  2. He's not worth that to me, but he's not one of my guys. I think I'd go for the single signed AS ball too. I hope it's a great experience for you!

  3. I think that's a little pricey for Upton, but if you don't think you'll ever get the opportunity to get it otherwise, just do it.

  4. I'd rather try and get Upton during spring training than pay, but that may not be an convenient option for you.

A benefit to a paid signing is getting Upton in a controlled environment where he is most likely to sign a better autograph than you would get otherwise [in a crowded situation where you might have to be lucky to get him to sign].

I would probably get him on an All-Star baseball, regardless of what he didn't get to do in that game.

  5. This is a touchy subject to me. Autographs are only worth as much as the fan is willing to give for them. However, there are so many fans per player that a price gets set. Is a Upton Auto is worth 65 to you? Well, since your questioning it I would say no. I mean, Jay Bruce is my and my daughters favorite player, to meet him in person and get an auto...priceless. To buy one on Ebay, 39.99
In my opinion, never turn down the chance to meet and get a players autograph, it is just not worth the chance! Money comes and goes...daily. This chance doesn't
