Trade with Thoughts and Sox

On May 17th I met up briefly with Adam, from the blog Thoughts and Sox, at a Diamondbacks game. I had a card for him and he had some D-Backs cards for me.

Curt Schilling only played for the Diamondbacks for 2.5 seasons but he sure has a lot of D-Backs cards. I guess it's just because of the sheer number of products in the early 2000's.

Adam was able to add a few new Brandon Webb cards to my collection and I'm always happy to add an extra Webb RC to my collection.

Here are a few other cards from Adam.

2008 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects

The Card Investor offered up some free sets a while back. Yeah, that's right, I didn't say cards, I said sets. He was looking to add some followers to his blog and get some feedback, and in return he sent out sets of cards. Here are some of the sets he was giving away.

•2010 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects base set (Steven Strasburg RC, Buster Posey RC, Jason Heyward RC)
•2010 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects prospect set (Manny Machado, Jameson Taillon)
•2008 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects base set (Evan Longoria RC, Clayton Kershaw RC)
•2008 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects prospect set (Jesus Montero, Rick Porcello)
•2008 Donruss Threads ("Shoeless" Joe Jackson, Pete Rose, Jesus Montero, Madison Bumgarner)
•2007 Donruss Elite Extra Edition (David Price, Mat Latos, Drew Stubbs)
•Many More!

I ended up getting the 2008 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects base set, which was awesome because I wasn't really collecting in 2008 and didn't have any of the cards, other than maybe Max Scherzer which I got as trade. Thanks Card Investor! Here are a few highlights rom the set.

Card Shop Purchase

I picked up this Max Scherzer card for my personal collection at my local card shop a few weeks ago. I think that Scherzer's a good, young pitcher and wish him well in Detroit. If you look closely at the card you can see that Max has two different colored eyes. I picked it up for $5 bucks.

A trade with the other half of Omega Cardboard

I'd already completed a trade with Angelsfan of Omega Cardboard, but this time Giantsfan and I recently completed a trade. He had pulled a Conor Jackson XFRACTOR and posted it on his blog wondering if I would be interested. Of course I was. So we arranged a D-Backs/Giants trade. I got his package on Monday. Here are a few of the highlights. Thanks Giantsfan!

2009 Topps Chrome CONOR JACKSON XFRACTOR - Sweet!

2009 Topps Chrome CONOR JACKSON Refractor - I love comparing the different versions. (i.e. XFRACTOR vs. Refractor)

2009 Topps Chrome CHRIS YOUNG Refractor - Nice!

2009 Sweet Spot - Stephen Drew and Max Scherzer - Always nice to recieve Sweet Spot D-Backs in a trade, because I won't be buying any packs anytime soon.

2008 UD Heroes WEBB/VERLANDER/HERNANDEZ - A new Brandon Webb card to add to my collection!

Giving Orioles and Getting D-Backs

About a week ago I posted an All-Time Orioles 12 card set for trade, that I had come accross in my collection. Ryan of the blog The Great Orioles Autograph Project was the first to respond and so we arranged a trade. I got a package from him in the mail yesterday containing a numbered Brandon Webb to add to my Brandon Webb collection and my Personal Collection list. He also included several 2008 Topps Gold parallel cards (Scherzer, Hudson, Melvin, and D-Backs Postseason Highlights), 3 - 2008 Topps Year In Review D-Backs inserts and a 2009 Topps Ring of Honor Randy Johnson insert. Thanks for the great cards Ryan!

Some of Mr. Scott's Baseball Cards are now mine!

Scott of the blog Mr. Scott's Baseball Cards contacted me recently after reading one of my posts on some Brandon Webb cards that I had picked up and asked if I would be interested in trading for a few more. I gladly accepted and we worked out a trade where I sent him a Roy White auto. I got his package in the mail today and wanted to show off the cards that Scott sent. Let me start with the two Brandon Webb cards that were offered for trade and then I will show the other cards that Scott included. Thanks Scott!

2008 Bowman Orange BRANDON WEBB numbered 012/250 - Goes great with the Blue version that I have.

2008 Topps Finest Finest Moments Refractor BRANDON WEBB numbered 007/299

2009 Topps Unique MAX SCHERZER - I have only seen these on other blogs, but I have to say that I like them after seeing them in person. They don't scan very well.

2009 Topps Unique JUSTON UPTON

2009 Sweet Spot JUSTIN UPTON - I haven't bought any 2009 Sweet Spot so it's always nice to get some D-Backs in trade.

2007 Exquisite Rookie Signatures MIKE SCHULTZ Auto - Great card and a big surprize! Thanks Scott! Mike tied a proffesional baseball record by striking out 5 batters during one inning on 7/15/04 while pitching for the Single-A Lancaster Jethawks. Two of his strike-three pitches got away from the cather. Pretty sure I don't have any Mike Schultz cards, so not only does this card get added to my Personal Collection, but I will get to check him off my all-time D-Backs card checklist.

Trip to the Card Shop

I went to the card shop today with the hopes of working on my 2010 card collecting goals. I only had $8 cash though, and the card shop is sort of picky about running a credit card for smaller purchases, so I was somewhat limited on what I could get. I picked up a 2008 Stadium Club Elliot Johnson autographed Rookie Card for Paul of Carl Crawford Cards and then I picked up a numbered Carl Crawford card with The Collective Troll in mind. I also needed a package of top loaders, so I didn't have much to money to spare, but I was able to pick up this card to add to my personal collection. Now only 99 more to go for one of 2010 card collecting goals.

2008 Stadium Club First Day Issue Max Scherzer RC numbered 093/599

I've started to accumulate a nice little Max Scherzer collection and I thought this would be a nice addition, even though he's no longer a Diamondback.

My thoughts on a trade with Thoughts and Sox

Adam of the blog Thoughts and Sox contacted me to arrange a trade. He would send D-Backs and I would send Red Sox. He sent me a nice stack of Diamondbacks of which I will feature a few of my favorites. Adam, I am still working on putting your package together, but it will go out shortly. I had to buy a bigger padded envelope so I could send more cards. Thanks again Adam!

2004 Topps Season Highlight card of Randy Johnson's Perfect Game - I remember sitting in my car in a grocery store parking lot so I could listen to Johnson get his perfect game.

2004 Topps Season Highlight card of Randy Johnson's 4000th Strikeout - Adam sent me two of these cards. The bottom one has been folded down the middle. It's hard to see it in the scan. Not sure why it had been folded.

A couple of Brandon Webb cards - Webb is my favorite D-Back right now and I am excited to see him pitch again in 2010.

2008 Topps Chris Young - High fives mean a D-Backs victory!

A couple of Max Scherzer Rookie Cards - I'm sad to see Max go, but I wish him luck in Detroit!

2009 O-Pee-Chee Justin Upton - I already have this card, but I wanted to show it because I love the fans on the card. I know right where this is a Chase Field and I think it is a great picture of a great catch and the fans expressions are priceless.

Finally, two cards of D-Backs players that I didn't have have. I'm trying to collect one card of every player who has played for the Diamondbacks.

Night Owl just doubled my Max Scherzer collection

Night Owl and I just completed a trade. I sent him a numbered Ishii card and some random Dodgers and he set me 3 Rookie Cards plus some random Diamondbacks. His random stack of D-Backs included 6 Max Scherzer cards. Scherzer was recently traded by the D-Backs to the Detroit Tigers as part of the three team trade that sent Curtis Granderson to the Yankees. I'm going to miss Max and so I decided to feature the 6 Scherzer cards that Night Owl sent as a tribute along with the 3 Rookie Cards that were the actual trade. Thanks Night Owl!
